So as not to block the ball rolling

The armies in both Egypt and Tunisia played a vital role in keeping security and safeguard the uprisings. This role removed the ugly image an army that sabotages the country to rebuild its own style while failed to win a war against an outside offence.
The army in Syria is suppressing the uprisings and the sit-ins alongside the regime. The mutual interests in such a rare situation fuel this battle against their own people whereas people and the army are in cohesion. In Libya, the army was fragmented and replaced by the African militias and mercenaries despite the society non-uniform tribal loyalties. A portion of the army remnants officers and soldiers have joined the uprising out of the sense that the everlasting nation is more important than an insane regime.
Yemen is another unique phenomenon. Despite the presence of the army, the dispute remains between the regime and its party on one hand versus a heavily armed opposition and an influential tribal fabric on the other. The strong support to the regime placed the way out in the hands of a maneuvering and stalling president. Opposition signature of the GCC initiative cut the president off. An act considered provocative by the president who depicted the initiative as a GCC conspiracy, a rather undiplomatic statement that we got used to. The siege of the reconciliation delegate at the embassy of UAE by supporters of the President came as the final blow to save the situation and blocking the way for prospects of a solution taking the interest of Yemen into account which is described as conspiracy by the president.
The GCC has kept a close relationship with Yemen out of the security, economical and social dimensions. In a similar situation when Saddam invaded and occupied Kuwait, the GCC countries went to Iraq and managed to address and solve the problem in a brotherhood atmosphere that put an end to the dispute. The intension of introducing the initiative in such turbulent circumstances is clear both to the President and his people. The majority opposition would not have signed the initiative if there a shred of doubt of interference, conspiracy or any one-sided attitude in this rather dangerous task.
Yemen is an Arab country in close proximity to the Gulf countries. Any domestic unrest will cast negatively on the Gulf States. The status quo will not improve under the current fear but out of moral responsibility to avoid bloodshed and to prevent this important Arab country from sliding into the uncertainty.
Patience, wisdom and transparent dialogue are required in order to solve this sharp dispute. Suspending the initiative, not relinquish it, gives the opportunity to reconsider the problem from all party's point of view. Great sacrifices are required from all parties for a better future of their people. A task only braves and wise will undertake.
