The National Committee for Recruitment, an affiliate of Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry, has rejected a unilateral decision taken by Indonesian authorities on raising the wages of Indonesian housemaids in the Kingdom from SR 600 to 800 monthly effective from August 1. In a statement issued here today, the committee said that the committee's delegation left for Indonesia to discuss the decision with the concerned authorities. It noted that the delegation proposed to Indonesian officials to postpone the decision of increasing the wages to January 1, 2008 and to refer the matter to a joint committee to study all topics relating to the increase, fleeing of housemaids, non-completion of contracts and their low-level training, but the Indonesian side did not positively respond to the Saudi delegation. The committee pointed out that if the Indonesian side insists on the wages' increase, the committee has to take decisive decisions including addressing the concerned authorities in the Kingdom to stop issuing visas for Indonesia. A meeting was held in Riyadh today at the Council's headquarters and it was agreed to postpone the decision's implementation two months effective from October 1, the statement noted. The meeting was co-chaired by the Committee's Chairman Saad bin Nahar Al-Baddah and Chairman of Indonesian Committee for Workers Recruitment Overseas Mohammed Jomhour Hidayat.
