A plane crashed on Taiwan's Penghu island in July because both the pilot and the co-pilot failed to see the runway, dpa quoted Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council as saying Friday. TransAsia Airways Flight GE222 went down while attempting an emergency landing on July 23 in heavy rains and winds in the wake of Typhoon Matmo. The crash caused 48 deaths but 10 people survived. It also injured five Penghu residents. The council Friday released a factual data report on the crash. The transcript of the flight voice recorder shows that around 20 seconds prior to the crash, both the pilot and the co-pilot failed to see the runway. Aviation Safety Council Executive Director Thomas Wang told a news conference that the plane did try a go-around 2 seconds before the crash. In addition, the council found that the plane was heading in wrong direction. "We also discovered that the airplane wrongly went left when it was descending.
