A 5.5-magnitude earthquake hit the district of Sirnak, close to the Turkey-Iraq border, Turkey's Kandilli earthquake dpa quoted observatory as reporting Thursday. There were no immediate reports of any casualties. The observatory said the quake hit at 08:52 am (05:52 GMT) and was centred in the town of Silopi. Turkey's state news agency Anatolian quoted officials as saying there were no reports of any fatalities, injuries or of major structural damage, save for the collapse of a minaret in the city of Sirnak. The observatory reported eight aftershocks by 10:42 am (07:42 GMT).
