Faisal, Emir of Makkah and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Conciliation (Islah) Committee, has helped to save a Sudanese shepherd from being beheaded. The Emir mediated with the family of Rajeh Muhammad Ali, a Yemeni national, who was killed by the Sudanese shepherd during a quarrel three years ago. The family dropped its demand for the execution because of the initiatives of Prince Khaled and because they wanted to win Allah's reward for their mercy. The two men had been neighbors in Al-Daqeiq neighborhood in Al-Waziriah in the southern part of Jeddah. Their quarrel had developed into a fierce fight resulting in the shepherd killing his neighbor. The Conciliation Committee in Makkah received the case hoping that the family of the dead man would drop their demand. The family of the Sudanese man, living in the Nu'aimah Region, 250 km from Khartoum, received the news with great joy. Bellah Mudhwi, the brother of the pardoned shepherd, said the committee had restored the faith of his brother's wife and three children. “The glad tidings came and loud ululations of joy could be heard from every neighbor's house marking the start of a new life for my brother and his family. We pray to Allah to grant success to Prince Khaled Al-Faisal for saving lives from the sword and may Allah reward the efforts of the committee members, who spared no effort to achieve the pardon despite all the difficulties and suffering involved.” Dr. Nasser Al-Zahrani, Executive Chairman of the Conciliation Committee in Makkah, said the positive response of the dead man's family embodies the mercy that can be shown among Muslims, especially among those living close to the Grand Mosque in Makkah. He expressed his satisfaction at the outcome of the process and said that Prince Khaled and the committee members had played a pivotal role in getting the dead man's family to understand the rewards for being merciful.
