King Abdulaziz Mosque ... Tunisian Masjid inspired by Saudi spirit
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 04 - 04 - 2023

The relations between Saudi Arabia and Tunisia have advanced to encompass all fields, particularly the religious sphere.
The Kingdom has supported religious institutions and mosques in Tunisia with projects providing comfort and facilitation to Muslims and making them a model religious beacon, such as the King Abdulaziz Mosque in the Al-Manar district in Tunis.
The Kingdom has been donating to mosques in different regions of Tunisia and supporting various projects, most of which were through the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), which sponsored the project to rehabilitate the King Abdulaziz Mosque with an estimated amount of SR 2 million.
The mosque was established 35 years ago at the suggestion of Dr. Abdullah Al-Wasif, the former president of the Supreme Islamic Council in Tunisia and a former professor of Islamic jurisprudence at a Saudi university.
After returning to Tunisia, he contacted the competent authorities in the Kingdom for approval to initiate the process of establishing the mosque, supported by all the funding required from the government of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd.
The King Abdulaziz Mosque can accommodate approximately 3,500 worshipers on a total area of 500 square meters, with three floors, including a floor for women to pray. The mosque features a remarkable external architectural design, with white and green colors, simulating the colors of the Kingdom's flag.
The imam of the King Abdulaziz Mosque Sheikh Ismail Al-Yanbu'i confirmed that the mosque's financing was entirely through a Saudi donation from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd, and it remains spiritually and geographically linked to the Kingdom, located on King Abdulaziz Street and named after him.
For his part, the Saudi Ambassador to Tunisia, Dr. Abdulaziz Bin Ali Al-Saqer, renewed in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, the Kingdom leadership's constant interest in supporting mosques and places of worship in all Arab and Islamic countries, according to the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
Ambassador Al-Saqer stressed that one of the vision goals is to support mosques and to facilitate procedures for Umrah performers and pilgrims, pointing out the keenness of the Kingdom's leadership to accelerate the implementation of the preparation and restoration projects announced earlier in the concerned countries. — SPA
