RIYADH — Two-time defending champion kept its three-peat bid alive by winning its third Best Team of the Week award during the 16th session in the Almarai-FBGR Tuesday Night Family Bowling League 17th Conference at the Universal Bowling Center here. After being bowled out of honors the previous week on total pinfalls countback against 20-Vision-20, Unica made sure it has the coveted weekly accolade in the bag this time with an emphatic 22-4 victory over sponsor team Almarai on total pinfalls of 3,952-3,485. Meantime, IBG Eagles ended the winning run of 20-Vision-20 after they brought down the league leaders 21-19 in a thrilling match on total pinfalls of 4,210-4,075. Elsewhere, Lion's Den enjoyed a comprehensive victory like Unica at the expense of Nomercies — a resounding 19-2 verdict on total pinfalls of 3,723-3,264, while Alsalam Strikers downed Talk and Strikes 16-14 (3,850-3,792). Ekart Gayeta of Talk and Strikes claimed the award for Best Bowler of the Week with his tally of 856 on scratch games of 196, 246, 190 and 160. Stephen Solomon and Joelito Santillan rolled solid series of 861 and 833 at the vanguard of a Unica attack that also featured 759 from Reynald Medina, 753 from Edwin Atienza and 746 from Dennis Durenz. In underlining their readiness for a championship bid the Eagles posted a slew of conference records to beat, setting new team records of 4,210 for high series with handicap, 1,128 for high game with handicap and 1,077 for high game scratch. Also, Mohammed Alyaba's sparkling 974 on lines of 290, 179, 217 and 232 is the new individual record for high series with handicap, supplanting Solomon's 952. Besides Alyaba the others who had a hand in the Eagles' big night were Butch Espinosa with his effort of 861, Irene Aril with 839, Arnold Jesena 781 and Donjie Mapalad 755. Rodel Bagohin tallied 839 to lead the Lion's Den with Clem Salazar on 700, Omar Valdez on 698 and Noel Morales on 691. At Alsalam the duo of Joseph Rivera and Susie Rivera carded 876 and 807, while Rollie Cleofe added 717, Mario Rivera ad 697, Alfred Valencia 415 and Bandar Al-Marshad 347.
