With the enticing scents of mint, cilantro, cinnamon and turmeric hanging invitingly in the air, distinguished guests, diplomats and foodies from across the capital city of Riyadh gathered together in celebration of the new and enchanting Indian food festival. Opened in the Mövenpick Hotel Riyadh, Anardana restaurant, the restaurant has been lauded by critics and guests for its sophistication and multidimensional menu. "Anardana makes you feel as if you are being spirited away to a charming and exotic retreat," noted Chef Gaurav Kakkar, the executive chef at Anardana restaurant, which saw the debut of the plush menu that boldly celebrates the direct and vibrant flavors of the Indian kitchen. A true labor of love, the restaurant grew from the passionate vision of Mövenpick Hotel Riyadh Guest Chef Chalapathi Rao, fondly know in the culinary world as Chef Challu. He is globally renowned for his culinary skills and his exceptionally high personal standards. He is known as one of the finest south Indian chefs that the country has and is the custodian for the South Indian culinary arts scene in India. Kakkar and the team strike a perfect balance between seasoning and sophistication. From the heart of South India comes a meticulously prepared robust "Kothmir Kodi" — coriander chicken curry with fragrant coconut rice that elevates a mainstream south Indian dish into an unforgettable signature plate. Also drawing from the vibrant kitchens of south India, Challu has reinvented the magical "Chicken Chettinad" which melts delicately in the mouth– a must for spice enthusiasts. "Indian cuisine demands respect. It requires a high level of technique and an authentic passion for the powerful ingredients that it incorporates," noted Kakkar. The extensive menu at Anardana is no easy undertaking for the chefs who ensure that the restaurant maintains its consistency and same excellent standards day in and day out. With high looming arches and a rich mahogany and beige palette, Anardana combines a contemporary open space layout with authentic Indian architecture and intricate details, making it a perfect place to host a gathering of up to 60 people. Each aromatic dish is beautifully displayed in a rich buffet, though guests may also request some a la carte specialties from their friendly waiters and attendees.
