Syed Taqiuddin RIYADH — Deadly bowling by Kanoo Freight bowler Qadir against Kanoo Commercial and a fine batting performance by Kanoo Finance's Faiz were the highlights of the on-going Kanoo Inter-Division Cricket Tournament here recently. In first match, Kanoo Commercial elected to bat first and crumbled for 52 in the face of some deadly bowling by Kanoo Freight bowler Qadir, who took a hat trick for nine runs. He was well supported by Mohamed Inham (2-11) and Vasanth (2-17). Hassan (14) and Prasanth (10) were among the runs for Commercial. In reply Kanoo Freight, helped by Sadiqullah's 26 romped home for the loss of seven wickets. Zahir bowled well for Commercial and took 3-13, while Prasanth and Riyaz took a wicket each. In another match Kanoo Travel comfortably beat Kanoo Finance by 13 runs. Electing to bat first, Travel scored 97-4 thanks to Riyaz (36), Shakir (14) and Madhu (14 n.o.). Arun and Shabbir took a wicket each. In reply, Finance was restricted to 84-5. Faiz played well for his unbeaten 45, but could not save Finance from defeat. Riju and Shakir took two wickets each, while Taqi bagged one wicket. Earlier, in the previous week's action Kanoo Freight, helped by Mohamed Inham's hat trick, beat Kanoo Commercial by 6 wickets. Batting first, Commercial was all out for 59. Yunis (17 n.o.), Imtiaz (12) and Hassan (10) were the notable scorers. Inham took four wickets, including a hat trick, conceding 21. Qadir claimed 4-17 and Vasanth 1-8. Freight achieved the target for the loss of four wickets. Vasanth remained not out on 27. In another match, Tense (23 n.o.), Jaffar (23) and Faiz (17 n.o.) guided Kanoo Finance to a nine-wicket victory over Kanoo Travels. Travels scored 67-8. Shafie Zubair (27) and Shakir (14) were the only Travel batsmen to reach double figures. Arun K. (2-26) and Shabir (2-18) were the most successful bowlers for Finance. In the second innings Riju took the only wicket to fall.
