Astros on a homer spree

George Springer hit two homers among four hits and the Houston Astros hammered a season-high six home runs to complete a series sweep against the Minnesota Twins with a 17-6 victory.
Evan Gattis had four hits, including a solo homer, and three RBIs. Carlos Correa had three hits, including a two-run homer in the first inning, and drove in three runs.
Alex Bregman homered for the third straight day and Marwin Gonzalez also homered as Houston won its seventh straight game.
The Astros scored a franchise-record 40 runs in the three-game series.
Minnesota relievers allowed 28 runs (27 earned) in nine innings in the three games. The Twins got a solo homer by Eddie Rosario and a two-run shot by former Astro Jason Castro.
Padres 2, Cubs 1
Rookie Franchy Cordero tripled with one out in the eighth and scored on a fielder's choice to break a 1-1 tie and help San Diego sweep Chicago for its fourth straight victory.
The loss capped an 0-6 West Coast road trip for the Cubs. The Padres won a fourth straight game for the first time since August 2015.
Orioles 10, Yankees 4
Adam Jones, back after missing four games, hit a three-run homer and finished with five RBIs as Baltimore defeated New York.
The Orioles won two of three against the first-place Yankees after losing 12-of-15 coming into the series. Jones, who had been sidelined due to ankle issues, had an RBI double in the third inning before homering in the fourth.
Nationals 3, Giants 1
Ryan Zimmerman hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Max Scherzer made it stand up with his seventh career complete game as Washington swept San Francisco.
The Nationals played without Bryce Harper, who earlier in the day accepted his suspension after it was lowered from four games to three on appeal. Harper was penalized for charging the mound on Monday against the Giants.
Red Sox 4, White Sox 1
Drew Pomeranz pitched seven quality innings and Pablo Sandoval went 3-for-4 with an RBI in his first start since April 23 as Boston pulled away from Chicago.
Rays 7, Rangers 5 (10 innings)
Logan Morrison and Derek Norris each hit 10th-inning homers as Tampa Bay, which was one out from defeat, rallied to victory.
Mariners 5, Rockies 0
James Paxton, making his first appearance since May 2, pitched 5 1/3 innings as Seattle won its fourth straight.
Brewers 7, Mets 1
Eric Thames continued snapping out of his slump when he reached base four times in five plate appearances and hit a two-run homer in the first inning that launched Milwaukee to victory.
Cardinals 2, Dodgers 1
Dexter Fowler broke a tie in the eighth inning with a two-out solo homer to lead St Louis after Carlos Martinez checked Los Angeles on four hits in eight innings.
Tigers 6, Royals 5
Victor Martinez and Alex Avila homered as Detroit rallied from an early three-run deficit to defeat Kansas City.
Angels 2, Braves 1
Eric Young Jr homered in the eighth inning to lift Los Angeles past Atlanta. Young, playing in only his third major league game this season, hit his first home run since 2014 while with the New York Mets.

Pirates 5 (14 innings)
Chris Owings' single in the 14th inning drove in the winning run for Arizona in a game that was interrupted for one hour and 33 minutes by rain.
Blue Jays 5, Reds 4
Devon Travis hit a two-run, go-ahead homer in the seventh inning to help Toronto complete a three-game sweep of Cincinnati.
Marlins 10, Phillies 2
Justin Bour homered twice and Marcell Ozuna went deep once to power Miami past Philadelphia.
Athletics 3, Indians 1
Chad Pinder had three hits, including two home runs, and Sean Manaea combined with two relievers on a three-hitter as Oakland halted its four-game slide and Cleveland's three-game winning streak. — Reuters
