The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has successfully improved its safety and health records in all sectors and work sites for the third consecutive year. The company reduced work-related accidents by 16 percent in 2016 as against 2015. This achievement was made despite the significant expansion in the company's distribution lines, networks, transform stations and plants to meet the ever increasing demand for power across all regions. SEC Senior Vice President for Services Aish Al-Shammari said the successful safety record was a direct result of the company's implementation of the Universal Safety Program in the fields of security, safety and professional health. The program forms a part of the Strategic Transformation Program being applied by the company since 2014. Al-Shammari said the program is being applied by leading global companies. It adopts accurate standards, regulations and procedures aimed at limiting work-related accidents. The implementation of the program under the close supervision of the company's senior management is reflected in the noticeable decrease in accidents as seen in the statistics and data for 2016 as compared to 2015, Al-Shammari added. A number of measures were taken in 2016 to develop its safety systems and records. It held 1,693 awareness workshops on general safety, traffic safety, fire fighting and health environment for more than 28,027 employees and contractors. It also paid 6,789 safety inspection visits to work sites when 26,390 issues were noted and addressed by taking preventive measures. All company vehicles were also monitored through an automated system to ensure they complied with traffic regulations, Al-Shammari said.
