U.S. stocks closed mixed after a choppy session Tuesday, as the Nasdaq composite notched a fresh record high. The dollar rose slightly against a basket of currencies. Light sweet crude oil for February delivery fell $1.15 to $50.82 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while gold futures added $2.20 to $1,187.10 per ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 31.85, or 0.16 percent, to 19,855.53. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index was unchanged at 2,268.90. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index gained 20.00, or 0.36 percent, to 5,551.82.
