JEDDAH — Emil Payongayong and Sally Sa?osa cropped best by respectively snapping the men's and women's titles of the Filipino Expatriate Damayan Bowling Group hotly contested monthly Quest for the Champions of June 2012 at the Bowling City here.
Meekly starting the class elimination early led by Ruben Gri?o, Payongayong followed up his 169 with 197 and went on with 182 and 188 to qualify top with 736 which Robert Stone failed to surpass on his massive pursuit good only for second place at 733. Challenged by Ruel Santoc who outlasted Stone, FBF champion Baraquel and Ernie Geslani on 1-game playoff, Payongayong was initially disadvantage at 193-189 but finished off the challenger at 371-343 on game two 182-150 repulsion to be the class B champion and face Roger Daquioag, Arnel Digap and Ver Jasa for the overall title quest.
Daquioag then dominated Game 1 on a sizzling 224 with Payongayong pacing close at 209 followed by Jasa 193 and Digap 175. But losing his focus, Daquioag bowled imprecisely so that his recklessly kegled 157 settled him at third with 381. Such drawback of arch-rival heightened Payongayong's vehemence to seal the match with 224 to be the FEDBG June Champion at 433 2-game handicapped total. Plugging a 194, Jasa finished first runner-up with 389 while Digap embraced 4th spot with 344.
On the women's side, Ester Santoc probed a 176, dazzled 216 and 221 on Games 2 and 3 then leverage with 169 to lead group AB with 782 and wait for the survivors among Malou Nidoy, Sa?osa and May Lourdes. Grace Funtilon also did great on CD initialing 232 then safeguarded top post with average games to sum up 788 that edged Aileen Miralbuna who competed with 775 to be with Evelyn Santoc, Shirley Sagmit and Mariz Resano on the shootout. Eloisa Fernandez was eliminated.
Group AB was a real close fight with Sa?osa emerging luckiest making the finals with 172, leaving Nidoy and Lourdes with 170 and 169 respectively. Evelyn bowled best with 214 on CD to be head-on with Ester, Funtilon and Sa?osa on the finals.
Confident on her track, Sa?osa controlled the race with 193 looking down on Funtilon (187), Ester and Evelyn (157-all). Seeing Ester was on determined pursuit and Funtilon was squarely trading marks, Sa?osa entrenched her post by bettering spare conversion to shut off Ladies June title with 395 on her 202 capping. Funtilon sustained second post, Ester was third and Evelyn was fourth.
