Daquioag, Esperancilla excel
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 20 - 12 - 2011

Roger Daquioag unleashed two decisive games on the last half to clinch the men's title, while Christine Esperancilla finished the ladies' division championship on top on a four-game series with handicap sudden death finals of the Filipino Expatriate Damayan Bowling Group Quest for the Bowler of the Year 2011 at the Bowling City here.
Seeded to the finals via topping the battles of the champions, Daquioag, who won the September tourney, was dwelling the cellar with 363 after two games wherein top favorite Randy Mata was leading with 477 (223, 224) on the 8-bowler race. Mata along with Rudy Carillo were also in the finals after winning monthly placers playoff. Zaldy Bacero also went straight to finals by placing second to Daquioag on the finals via battle of the champions.
Right behind Mata was desperado match survivor Jowet Carreon with 431, followed by Ronnie de Castro (424), Bacero (407), Carillo (390), Ver Jasa (392) and Robert Stone (387). But a head-banging single-pin miss spoiled Mata's focus resulting in a second post relegation with 639 suddenly overtaken by Stone with 659 on 272 break through. A 245 pinch put Daquioag in the 6th spot with 608 looking up at 69 computed advantages of Stone. All finalists then struggled on the ultimate game with Daquioag, Bacero and Carreon continuously bagging for their last-chance pursuit, while Stone defensively returned the marks. Reaching the homestretch, Daquioag was seen as the most enduring contender as he bagged all the way for a surprising bottom-to-top quest overtaking Stone with six pins. Daquioag finally ended his chase at 877 on a 269 now-or-never blitz making stones his bridesmaid with 871. Outlasting third place was Carreon with 858 on his 227 survival, while de Castro saved 4th spot with 848. Embracing consolation positions were Bacero 826, Mata 816, Jasa 770 and Carillo 742.
In the ladies' division, Christine Esperancilla got paid off for her constant practice when she scratched 193 to maximize her handicap at 233 and be ahead of Evelyn Santoc who initialed 194 for 224 with handicap on opening salvo. May Lourdes scored 212, followed by Alma Baylon (187), Pinky Acato and Ester Santoc with 179 each, Aisah Silabay (171) and Sally Sa?osa (157). With convincing followup on second and third games, Esperancilla, Evelyn and Lourdes enabled to keep top three with 636, 590 and 560 respectively as Ester threatened at fourth with 536.
In the final game, Esperancilla managed to rally for another 233 to seal off the FEDBG Ladies Bowler of 2011 with a handicap of 869, while Evelyn finished second with 751. Acato managed to level Lourdes at 736 and even emerged as the second runner-up by rule of consistency which dropped the latter to consolation-prize winners together with Ester, Silabay, Baylon and Sa?osa.
