ICHTHUS grabs semis berth in Seiko basketball

JEDDAH — ICHTHUS of Dennis Elmenzo beat Thunder 88-82 in the Seiko Watch–JBL Basketball Tournament at the Khalidia basketball court here.
The winner played tough defense in the final quarter. The loser tried its best to halt the rival's offense but missed crucial jumpers. Carbonel top scored with 27 points for the winner and was adjudged the Seiko Watch Best Player of the Game. Mickey Leyva led the scorers for the loser.
This tournament is principally sponsored by Seiko Watch of Al-Hussaini & Al-Yahya Investment Group (Othman Al-Hussaini). The co-sponsors are Nesma Airlines (Faisal Al-Turki), Rabea Tea, Giordano Fashions (Ahmadullah), New Cabalen Restaurant (Japh Villanueva) and Ric Printing.
Tetra Pak defeated Fame 74-67. The winner exhibited excellent teamwork to get the better of a strong side. The loser committed crucial turnovers in the dying seconds. Collado scored 34 points for the winner and was selected as the Giordano Best Player. Garcia collected 21 points for the loser.
Pazadaure scored over Sunbulah 105-58. The winner's trapping defense clicked very well as the losers committed several passing errors. Manuel led the winner with 24 points and was named the JBL Best Player. Munez top scored with 20 points for the loser.
Khalidia Tambayz of coach Gerry Acosta beat Leylaty 110-76. The winner intelligently utilized its open man for the offense. The loser lost its fire in the final quarter and missed important baskets. Ricky Sakuragi Serrano poured in 27 points for the winner and was adjudged Seiko Watch Best Player. Fernandez produced 27 points for the loser. Meanwhile, Jeddah Basketball League (JBL) will host the 1st SNKSJ–JBL Teens Junior, Midget and Mix Parent Junior Basketball Tournament from Oct. 28 at the Khalidia basketball court.
JBL Teens after their successful stint in BM Riyadh Regional showdown will prepare for another out of Jeddah games in December. JBL Teens dedicated their Championship Trophies to their volunteer coaches and parents.
