Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Jeddah Municipality has specified 10 locations to sell sheep with a permission to sell animals for slaughter from vehicles also. This has been done to curb haphazard selling and to serve a large number of population, Jeddah Municipality said in a statement. The locations specified are: the main slaughterhouse east of Al-Haramain road, sheep market in the south of Jeddah, Al-Sabil district slaughterhouse, an area in Al-Nuzha district, an area near Pepsi factory in Um Al-Salam district, near Binladin Mosque in Al-Jamaa district, an area in Al-Hamadaniya district, an area near Asfan road, Dahban, and a location in Al-Woroud district. The municipality called on Saudis and expatriates to stick to these locations and not to buy from traders who sell sheep at unauthorized locations. This is to ensure that the sheep are safe and healthy. Meanwhile, the prices of local sheep have decrease by at least 30 percent in the market due to the increasing number of sheep imported from various international markets. However, Osman Abid, a sheep seller, is expecting good business in Eid Al-Adha. Salim Al-Ghamdi, a trader, said that the prices of sheep range from SR450 to SR1,200 depending on the type and weight. He said the least expensive sheep are those which are imported from Africa while Al-Naimi and Al-Harfi are more expensive.
