Jeddah — The Ministry of Labor and Social Development documented 1,798 violations of the instructions to transfer workshops from Al-Nuzha district near the airport to Asfan in north Jeddah where a new industrial city has been built. The instructions were issued to clear the area around the airport and beautify the city. A report issued by the police department and received by Saudi Gazette Tuesday noted that a joint government committee removed over 1,400 unused cars. Committee inspectors also detained 44 overstayers and found 404 people working for other sponsors. The committee also closed down 35 cafes in the area. The committee supervised by the head of police department in Makkah region Saeed Al-Gharni is supervising the transfer of workshops from Al-Nuzha district to Asfan. A committee of some 11 government departments is collaborating to clear the area around the airport. The committee includes representatives from the police, passports department, traffic department, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the municipality, Saudi Electricity Company and the National Water Company. The new industrial city located some 25 kilometers from Jeddah airport is equipped to welcome in its initial stage some 268 small industrial workshops. The whole industrial city is spread over an area of five million square meters.
