In massive crackdowns during the fasting month of Ramadan, Jeddah police arrested 47 people wanted for various offenses. About 1,950 illegal foreigners were also among those arrested during raids on different localities in the city, the police said. The campaign covered the districts of Al-Safa, Al-Sabeel, Al-Kurantinyah, Al-Nuzlah, Ghulail and residential quarters east of the Haramain Expressway. Bawadi, Nuzha, Ruwais, Sharafiyah and Baghdadiyah were the other districts which were also covered. The arrested men were wanted for alcohol brewing, robberies, impersonating policemen, ethical crimes and others. All the illegal overstayers were handed over to the Passports Department for deportation while the criminals are in police custody pending further investigations.
