Hanco Maintenance, Diet Shop win openers

Hanco Maintenance, Diet Shop and Solid North recorded victories on the opening day of the JBL 2011-Titan Invitational Basketball Tournament here.
All the teams participating in the event paraded in their resplendent uniforms during the opening ceremony held at the Bin Mafouz basketball court at Al-Andalus District. JBL President Mohammad Rasheed Suyat and JBL Commissioner Joe Dela Cerna led the opening ceremony with Ali Lumanog and Ahmed Peradilla of Jeddah Dawah Center saying opening prayers.
The award for the best team in uniform went to Al-Saad Contruction in the Inter-Company Division while Star Market in the Open Non-rated 38 & above Division. Best mascot awards were won by Diet Shop & Moda for Inter Company and Star Market for Open Non-rated 38 & above Division.
This tournament is principally sponsored by Titan–Al Hussaini & Yahya Investment Group with the support of Giordano Fashions, ABS-CBN-The Filipino Channel and Wael Sports Wear.
Hanco Maintenance defeated newcomers Al-Saad Construction 62-49. Al-Saad missed important baskets in the end game. With 3 minutes remaining ace shooter Sahir Asuncion unleashed 3-pointers to ice the game for Hanco Maintenance. Amor pumped in a game-high 16 points for Hanco Maintenance and was adjudged as the Giordano best player of the game while Padilla chipped in 23 points for Al-Saad Construction.
Diet Shop beat MODA 56-46. Diet Shop held on in the final quarter as MODA tried to steer a rally. Ron Tarcena led Diet Shop with 20 points and was adjudged as the Wael Sports Wear best player of the game while Bhoyet Tordecilla led the MODA challenge with his 32 points.
Solid North beat Toyota 69-47. Defending champion Solid North played running game in the first half. It pounded the Toyota defense from all angles. Pablo Viscayno and Ostonal topscored with 15 points each while Antonio scored 12 for the losers. Ostonal was adjudged as the Titan best player of the game.
