We pushed the illegal workers away but the unemployment increased!
Published in Alriyadh on 24 - 12 - 2013

After the departure or settlement of foreign workers' conditions; we realized as per the declarations of Ministry of Labor that most of those workers jobs do not suit the Saudi citizens due to that they handle low jobs of low salaries. However, the other percentage of jobs that suit the Saudi citizens raised an argument between employment entities and the worker where the common charge of the low performance of the Saudi citizen and his running away or absence from the work returned again. We do not know the percentages of the serious workers and the careless ones but this returns us to the first stage where we need to seek the support of the foreigner to avoid an operational decrease that reflects negatively on the general production in all professions.
The statistics about the jobless Saudi citizens varied. It has been said that there are more than a million of them who are jobless and that 80% of this figure are women, in addition to that the percentage of college graduates, below college level certificates holders and craftsmen constitute the bigger number in this regard.
To avoid being lost in the maze of numbers and the subject of money transfers abroad which represent a state of draining in our national economy, in addition to the negative aspects of such foreign workers on the general behavior & the danger of their settlement..etc; the question which imposes itself in this regard is: "Where are the outputs of the technical education?" especially if we know that the vacancies resulted from abandonment the illegal workers provided thousands of jobs related to cars workshops, household appliances, electricity, carpentry, maintenance and many others. Meanwhile, complaints of the same graduates keep being raised and stating that they find no opportunity before the foreigners' numerous numbers who are occupying such activities?
We know that education has statistics, lists, bulletins & books which are sent to all parties concerned with the negative aspect of this education together with communications from holders of the highest positions in this education addressed to Public Relations Department for convincing who approaches from discussing the condition and mistakes of the establishment and its staff. Thus, the result is revealed by the present reality of that the new jobs are occupied by holders of these qualifications. The reality is that the reason is not due to the negativity of the graduate but to his weak qualification or preparedness that does not enable him to start building a private work which profits can be many thousands monthly or to obtain a job that has become vacant after the departure of the foreigner.
Holders of the other qualifications, especially theoretical sciences, look for the governmental job due to that it is stable in regard to salary and professional security; in addition to that it can fit the low performance where carelessness and absence are possible. This subject includes a lot of details that commentators are writing and people are talking about.
There are qualifications which are required in labor market where qualified graduates in ICT, engineering, medicine, accountancy, legislation ... etc are required badly in both of the governmental; and private sectors. This returns us to the problem of education which includes all stages until the higher studies as they have not been considering the requirement of the whole market. This led to the actual and hidden unemployment.
Departing the workers has not been an arbitrary action as it had been implemented for achieving the public interest. However, the positive aspects have started to become negative ones due to that the culture of respecting the work and being committed to it is still negative in the local citizen perception. At this stage, we need to analyze the whole problem and deal with it under the perspective of the present and future reality. It is not logical that the numbers of unemployed citizens increase and become faced, at the same time, by the crawl of the expatriates.
