The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) pointed out that despite entry of the Syrian crisis, into its 8th year, the armed conflict still persists, and that unfortunately, violations of human rights and international humanitarian law are still being carried out by the parties to the conflict, in particular, by the Syrian regime and its foreign militias, in collaboration with it, including the impediments to humanitarian access to those in need and affected vulnerable civilian population. Addressing the Human Rights Council during the interactive dialogue with the International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, the Kingdom's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office, in Geneva Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel expressed regret over the report of the commission, on the escalation of deliberate targeting of areas inhabited by innocent civilians, in Idlib, in particular. He called on all parties to the conflict to avoid civilians and unconditionally allow humanitarian access to those affected. Dr. Al-Wasel also expressed sorrow for the report of the committee that the conflict in Syria led to the displacement of about 13 million civilians, half of them refugees and the other half internally displaced, who continue to suffer from serious violations of their human rights, especially women, children, people with disabilities and the elderly, therein lies the importance of pressuring the parties to the conflict to stop all violations against these civilians and to reach a political solution. Al-Wasel emphasized the Kingdom's firm stance on the Syrian crisis since its inception, which is to support all international efforts to resolve this crisis, politically, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254, which we hope to achieve the hopes of the brotherly Syrian people and their right to live in their country, in safety and prosperity.
