U.S. stocks fell significantly Monday. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 84.10, or 0.3 percent, to 25,679.90. Twenty of the index's 30 components dropped, led by Apple and Intel, which plunged 3.1 and 3 percent, respectively. Nike lost 2 percent. UnitedHealth and Verizon led advancers, climbing 1.9 and 1.6 percent, respectively. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 19.30, or 0.7 percent, to 2,840.23. Technology dropped 2 percent, leading declining sectors. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 113.91, or 1.5 percent, to 7,702.38, led by losses by Apple and Intel. Alphabet dropped 2.1 percent, Netflix lost 1.8 percent, and Facebook declined 1.4 percent.
