Secretary-General of King Abdullah Center for Interfaith Dialogue, Warns against Negative Exploitation of Religion, in Spreading Extremism, Hatred, Violence, Terrorism
Secretary-General of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Center for Dialogue among Religions and Cultures Faisal bin Mu'ammar explained that the negative exploitation of religion, non-recognition of all differences by conflicting parties, non-consolidation of coexistence and the acceptance of pluralism, under the umbrella of common citizenship, would lead to serious consequences. Such parties and groups, to such differences spread extremism, fanaticism and hatred leading to violence, terrorism and conflicts, which can often escalate and develop into committing acts of terrorism, wars and destruction, he stated. He pointed out that the center seeks to put an end to the negative exploitation of religion and to promote dialogue in the issue of resolving conflicts based on the recognition that there are no identical features between us all, but there are great human shared values and that diversity and difference is not negative. The center builds bridges among individuals, religious leaders and institutions, and even policy makers to contribute to the consolidation of coexistence, respect for diversity and peace-building under the umbrella of shared citizenship, he added. This came during a speech he delivered during participation as a main speaker, at the opening session of the International Conference, under the title: (to communicate with the other: overcoming the clash between cultures) organized by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Group of ambassadors of Islamic countries and the Institute of International Relations, in Prague, in the presence of experts and specialists and world-class international organizations, academics and representatives of civil society organizations. In his speech, bin Mu'ammar reviewed, also, achievements of the center, an international and quasi-governmental organization founded by Saudi Arabia, Austria, Spain, as well as the Vatican.
