U.S. stocks rose sharply Tuesday, with the three major indexes posting their biggest daily surges since March, after the release of strong third-quarter results from several big U.S. companies helped the market recover from last week's steep sell-off. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 547.81, or 2.2 percent, to 25,798.36. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 59.13, or 2.15 percent, to 2,809.92. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 214.75, or 2.9 percent, to 7,645.49.
