Minister of Culture and Information of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad, who is also rotatory Chairman of the 9th ordinary session of the Executive Bureau of the Arab Information Ministers Council, underscored the importance of the Arab media reflecting the dangerous role of Iran in propagating disturbance and struggles and spreading terror in the region.
In a key speech before the 49th Session of the Arab Information Ministers Council being held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo today, Dr. Al-Awwad stressed the need to highlight the Arab position on the media and brief the world on the violations and crimes committed by the Iranian terrorist regime against humanity.
Dr. Al-Awwad said that Saudi Arabia's support for the Palestinian cause reflects the keenness of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his HRH the Crown Prince to assist the Palestinian people and provide constant support for the restoration of the Palestinian legitimate rights.
He referred to the resolution of the 29th Arab Summit (Al-Quds Summit) on the Media Plan for Al-Quds, which includes programs and initiatives, prepared by the Arab League Secretariat General to execute the plan and achieve its goals in what guarantees highlighting the Palestinian cause on the media, casting light on their legitimate rights and UN relevant resolutions on the Arab and Muslims' central issue.
He confirmed the importance of remaining committed to the Charter of the Arab League which stipulates that mutual respect must be observed between member states and no state interferes in the internal affairs of any other country," he said, pointing out that the events witnessed by the region during the recent period proved that interference in the affairs of the internal states in any form is an act of aggression reflecting a state of political immaturity which will have serious consequences.
The Minister of Culture and Information reiterated the Kingdom's commitment to Yemen's unity, sovereignty, independence, security and territorial integrity, as well as the Kingdom's support for efforts to reach a political solution to the Yemeni crisis according to the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the Yemeni comprehensive dialogue and the UN Security Council resolution No. 2216.
Dr. Al-Awwad also reiterated Saudi Arabia's welcome to the statement issued by the Security Council, which strongly condemned the firing of 130 Iranian-made ballistic missiles by the Houthi militia against the Kingdom, demanding the Arab media to intensify efforts to unveil the behavior of Iran and its militias in the region and its violation of the international law, spreading of chaos and destruction in the region.
The Minister of Culture and Information stressed the importance of a balanced media to protect the minds of young people against deviation, upgrade their innovative skills, illuminate them towards the core issues of their nation and seek utilizing modern technologies to achieve that end.
He concluded that the convening of the 49th session of the Arab Media Council comes amid crucial regional and international circumstances that cast their shadows on the Arab nation and necessitates concerted efforts and unity of ranks to achieve the aspirations of the peoples of this nation and guarantee its interests.
He expressed hope that these resolutions be translated into reality and tangible facts to achieve the joint vision in all media issues, in what contributes to achieve the goals of the Arab joint action and face the dangers that affect the Arab unity.
