U.S. stocks closed lower Tuesday. The dollar was flat against a basket of currencies. Light sweet crude oil for April delivery dropped 6 cents to $53.99 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while gold futures fell $7.40 to $1,251.40 per ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average declined 24.86, or 0.12 percent, to 20,812.58. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 6.11, or 0.26 percent, to 2,363.64. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index decreased 36.46, or 0.62 percent, to 5,825.44.
