U.S. stocks closed higher Tuesday as investors kept an eye on a key Federal Reserve (Fed) meeting, while the Dow Jones industrial average closed in on another milestone. The dollar held around the flatline against a basket of currencies. Light sweet crude oil for January delivery increased 0.3 percent to $52.98 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while gold futures added 30 cents to $1,159.30. The Dow rose 130, or 0.66 percent, to 19,927. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 15, or 0.7 percent, to 2,273. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index advanced 60, or 1.11 percent, to 5,472.
