The Dow Jones industrial average rose 80, or 0.44 percent, to 18,225. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 9, or 0.46 percent, to 2,151. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index advanced 48, or 0.91 percent, to 5,305.
