U.S. stocks surged over 1 percent on Monday as investors bet Friday's deadly attacks in Paris would have little long-term effect on the U.S. economy and corporate earnings. The Dow Jones industrial average increased 238.31, or 1.38 percent, to 17482.55. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 30.09, or 1.49 percent, to 2053.13. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 56.73, or 1.15 percent, to 4,984.62.
