U.S. stocks closed more than 1 percent lower on Friday as investors weighed a jobs report that indicated an interest rate hike could come sooner rather than later. The dollar rose more than 1 percent against major world currencies. Light sweet crude oil for April delivery lost $1.15 to $49.61 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while gold futures fell $31.90 to $1,164.30 an ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average declined 278.94, or 1.54 percent, to 17,856.78. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 29.78, or 1.42 percent, to 2,071.26. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index lost 55.44, or 1.11 percent, to 4,927.37.
