Kenya began rebuilding its key international airport on Tuesday, four months after the main terminal burned down in a massive fire, dpa reported. Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is one of sub-Saharan Africa's busiest airports, handling about 16,000 passengers a day, or just under 6 million annually. Even before the fire - which was caused by an electrical malfunction - there had been plans to revamp the airport, which was originally intended to handle far fewer passengers. The new Greenfield Terminal, which will cost 640 million dollars (471 million euros), is designed for 20 million passengers a year. Completion of the project, which is funded primarily by Chinese loans, is expected by 2017. -- SPA 18:04 LOCAL TIME 15:04 GMT تغريد
