A total of 397 laborers working on the 10th power generating station on Al-Kharj-Riyadh Road fell ill with food poisoning recently after dinner at the company's club. Dr. Adnan Al-Abdul Kareem, Director of the Health Affairs Directorate in Riyadh, said it had received a report showing that 397 Asian laborers developed symptoms of food poisoning immediately after they dined at the company's central restaurant. Of the total number of cases, 317 workers received first aid, 36 were admitted, and 44 are still under observation. He said 192 workers were referred to King Saud Medical Hospital in Riyadh, 64 to Al-Ayman Hospital, 74 to Prince Salman Hospital, 50 to King Khaled Hospital in Al-Kharj and the 17 remaining workers sent to the Military Hospital. He said a team including epidemiologists has been tasked with scanning samples from the meals the workers ate. It is learnt that a tripartite committee consisting of representatives from the General Directorate of Health in Riyadh, Al-Kharj Police and Municipality has been assigned to open an investigation into the incident and to submit a report to the authorities concerned.
