The violent theft of an elderly man carrying SR300,000 in cash from the sale of a plot of land has resulted in the arrest of two young men and his own grandson. The victim of the crime had just collected the money from a real estate office and was traveling by car with his grandson when they were hit from the rear by a vehicle without number plates whose occupants then proceeded to attack the elderly man while leaving his grandson with only superficial wounds. Suspicions aroused by the nature of the attack, police conducted interviews of all persons involved in the land sale transaction to rule out involvement and focused on the grandson's role in the affair. Further statements from the victim seemed to confirm investigators' suspicions and the grandson was called in for questioning. It was not long, according to police, before he confessed to colluding with two friends to rob his own grandfather, reportedly expressing his “profound repentance” at what he had done. The grandson added that his accomplices were “bad company” and that he was “incited to take part in the attack”.
