JEDDAH — Just like in real life, relations in reel life too has its ups and downs. But a breakup generally does not happen often in the imaginary world.
Today, a power couple broke this rule. Leading broadcasting company ABC which host the Muppets show confirmed that Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog are no longer a couple.
The breakup was announced by the couple in social media on Tuesday, with Kermit the Frog hinting Miss Piggy took the initiative.
After four decades of relationship, both explained this was a hard decision to take and they arrived at it after careful thought.
However, they will continue to work together on The Muppets Show this season and the new series of the Muppets will be aired this autumn.
For many people, who are the Muppets show and movies buff, this break proved shocking. Reactions to the split was swift, with one Twitter user saying it for many “this is horrible news,” while another female said that in her tweet that she would not accept this breakup.
Tweets from the Kingdom too reflected the shock at the breakup, but some tweets were glib about the relationships.
A Saudi female who did not want her name to be mentioned said, “I used to watch the Muppets in my childhood and for me the relationship between Miss Piggy and Kermit was a perfect example of a happy relationship. I am really disappointed with this split.”
Some of the reactions were flippant. For instance, one of the tweets questioned why were a frog and pig dating in the first place.
While some people who used to watch the Muppets , had not realized that Kermit and Piggy were a couple, and they in their tweets felt it was news to them.
Lobna Abdulaziz a Sudanese female said, “I did not know that they were together. I know the show but did not know that they were together in a relationship in real life.”
The Muppet show was aired for the first time in 1976 and since then the two have been a couple.
