RIYADH — The first Urdu language Mobile App “Najeeb Qasmi” in the world was launched on in Riyadh on June 12. The app contains a scholarly collection on different aspects of life. Haj pilgrims do not need to bring with them books on Haj, all information regarding Haj and Umrah are in your hands with this app. While addressing the gathering Dr. Najeeb Qasmi said: “The use of smartphone is rapidly growing in the world. It is estimated that the number of smartphone users will be around 70 crores in India by 2019. Smartphone is an easy and effective tool today for one to preach and spread his or her ideology. “That is why, by the mutual effort of Mudassir Ayyub, lecturer in the King Saud University Riyadh, Muhammad Abdul Basit Khan, Lahore University Pakistan and I, an Islamic mobile app has been created in Urdu. “This app is a collection of my 175 articles on different topics, 62 speeches and 7 books. This app is of 13 MB and available in Play Store which can be easily downloaded by any Android or Tablet user within 2 minutes even in urban and rural areas of India and Pakistan. It will soon be launched for iPhone users as well. English version of the app is also expected to be launched later.” While mentioning the features of this app, Qasmi said that the texts in the app are in Unicode format which has the facility of “Copy-Paste”. Any text of an article can be copied and sent to others through WhatsApp, SMS, Facebook or email. Qasmi also spoke about Ramadan and its virtues, issues related to Zakat were also part of his speech. Maulana Abdurrahman Umri, anchor of the program, highlighted the relation between Ramadan and Qur'an. While Maulana Abdul Bari Qasmi, president of the program, also highlighted the issues related to Ramadan and focused on virtues of fasting. Over 200, including men and women, attended the program. They appreciated this initiative of Dr. Najeeb Qasmi and asked other Ulemas also to use new technology in preaching and spreading Islam. — SG
