Centuries galore in WPCA

JEDDAH — Batsmen dominated the day as Shahbaz Rasheed, Ejaz Butt, Shafeeq Ahmed, Usman Amjad and Saqib Butt hit centuries in the WPCA Modern Pioneer Premier and Afternoon Tournaments here.

Pioneer Cup

Crown Steel defeated Pepsi Deccan Knights by 7 wickets. Pepsi Deccan Knights posted 163 for 9 as Mazhar scored 27 and Ather Abdulquddus 38 — the two adding 66. Ishaq made 27 and Hyder 22 as PDK lost wickets in a heap and crashed from 100-5 to 163 all out. Shafeeq Ahmed grabbed 4-20, Gulam Riyaz 3-24 and Murtuza 2-37.

In reply, Murtuza hammered 71 and Imran Azam 45 to add 133 and take Crown Steel to the winning post for the loss of 3 wickets in 103 balls. Ishaq, Athar and Mohammed took one wicket each.

My Care Hala thrashed AOT by 94 runs. My Care Hala racked up 228 for 3 as Shahbaz Rasheed blasted an unbeaten 101 in 57 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. He added 136 for the unbroken 4th wicket with Imran, who remained unbeaten on 85 off 36 balls with 7 sixes and 5 fours. Waleed, Zeeshan and Imran Yusuf took a wicket each. AOT was bowled out for 134 with only meaningful contribution coming from Faisal Mehmood (28). Mohammed Amjed took 4 for 28, Khurram Haneef 2-34, while Adnan, Imran, Jameel and Mohammed Taiyyab claimed a wicket each.

Afternoon Cup

Nestle Milo thrashed Contraco by 100 runs. Nestle Milo racked up 205 for 3 powered by Ejaz Butt, who blasted 101 in 45 balls with 20 boundaries. Skipper Abdullah Zahid compiled an unbeaten 66 in 51 balls as the two added 145. Waqas took 2-29. Contraco was bowled out for 105 to lose by 100 runs as Kaleem scored 27 and Shahzad 35 not out. Ahsan had 3-12, Bilal Malik 3-26.

Hala Academy White trounced Hala International School by 6 wickets. Hala White chased the target of 162 for 4 in 101 balls. Furqan Ahmed stroked 55 in 35 balls, while prolific Amer Sajjad smashed 35 in 9 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. The duo put on 69 in 26 balls for the first wicket. Aseer Ashraf and Shahid added 26 each.

Crown Blue humbled NAI Juffali by 161 runs. Crown Blue racked up 225 for 2 with Saqib Butt smashing 100 in 53 balls with 4 sixes and 10 fours. He first stitched 110 for the opening stand with Anwaar Chandi (51 in 31 balls) and then 85 for the second wicket with Tasleem (45 not). NAI Juffali, in reply, was restricted to 64 for 9 as Saqib Butt grabbed 3-9, Faizi 3-9 and Iftikhar 2-9.

APF had the last laugh against Lothers by 42 runs. Asian Plastic Factory piled up 204 for 5 as Malik Shan scored 26, Usman Jutt 43, Asim Abbasi 31, Adnan Jani 41 and Adnan 30 not out. Fazil had 2-46. Lothers could manage only 162 for 7. Mushtaq scored 56 in 37 balls and Ansar compiled 24 and Fazil 22 not out after a disastrous start. Nouman took 2-30 and Faisal 2-16.

Al-Safri-XI edged past Jotun Paints by 14 runs. Al-Safri put on 246 for 4 with Rehan blasting 93 in 45 balls while Muneeb Anwer hit 72 in 39 balls — the two adding 149 for the opening stand. Muneeb added 63 for the 2nd wicket with Waseeq Sherwani (48). Salman claimed 2-35. Jotun accepted the challenge as Mohammed Shafeeq batted magnificently to compile 116 in 46 balls studded with 13 fours and 6 sixes. He added 132 runs with Salman (39) to be on course but the batsmen to follow just did not click to be stranded at 232 for 8 as Saleem Butt tried his best with 36.

MCC downed Choudhry-XI by 94 runs. MCC piled up 212 for 6 with Saleem Mohammed hammering 71, Hamed 41, Naeem 38, Imran 25 and Mustafa 20. Wajid had 2-58. Choudhry-XI was bundled out for 118 as Azeem scored 43 and Waqas Wajid 41. Mustafa bagged 3-32, Mehfooz 2-19 and Babar 2-22.
