Fewer workers from India should mean more jobs for Saudis
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 06 - 06 - 2015

With regard to the article “India suspends sending workers to Kingdom” (June 4), if India or any country stops sending all categories of workers to the Kingdom, it will be a good opportunity for businesses to start hiring more and more unemployed Saudis and recent Saudi graduates. There will be more opportunities for Saudi citizens both male and female who are ready to fulfill the requirements of the growing Saudi job market and businesses.
Avid1111, Online response
Avid1111, I totally disagree with you. Many Saudis do not want to work in low-profile jobs and employers do not want to pay high salaries and provide good facilities to local workers. So whether or not the Indian government or any other government stops sending workers to Saudi Arabia, it will not affect the number of Saudis who are unemployed.
Sameer, Online response
While I do not agree with Avid1111 on many of the things he comments about, I do agree that this is a great opportunity for Saudi men to learn to handle menial jobs and for Saudi women to finally start taking care of their own homes.

I respect Saudi Arabia and its citizens. There is a very friendly work environment in the Kingdom with safety and security. But discrimination and racism are growing between Saudis and expats. We Muslims must learn to love and respect each other. If employers cannot provide bonuses or perks, they can at least try to appreciate and praise the hard work of their employees which means a lot to them. Municipality workers are expats, Haramain construction workers are expats, drivers, cleaners, site engineers, and those employed in oil and construction firms are all expatriates.
Imtiyaz Shaikh, Online response
This is good news and bad news at the same time. Nowadays, there is a lot of regional discrimination in companies in Saudi Arabia. Before it was different but now the top management, excluding the owners, are introducing regional discrimination. The owners of companies must look into this matter and solve this problem for themselves.

It is really not possible for India to suspend sending workers to the Kingdom because of the high unemployment rate in India. Many poor families pay large amounts to send their breadwinner abroad. This regulation may be in effect for a period of time, but then it will be lifted. Otherwise, India will pay a huge price. Many housemaids come from the Philippines and Indonesia and these countries can send even more. So India should not stop sending workers, because other countries can easily fulfill the requirements of Saudi Arabia.
Qasim, Online response
This is really good news. More Saudis will have to do their own cooking and cleaning. It may force the government to look into companies providing professional day care centers at their organizations. That is what should be happening.
Saadia Qahtani, Online response
This does not make any sense. If India does not want to send housemaids to Saudi Arabia, then why are professionals being banned from working in the Kingdom? These are entirely different matters. Nowadays, India is known for technical and management competency throughout the world. Indian CEOs have done wonders in the Far East, the UAE, US, UK, Australia and elsewhere. Also Indian laborers earn double the salary they would get in Saudi Arabia. In the Kingdom, they are paid SR500 riyals, while in India any unskilled laborer can easily earn about SR1,000.
