RIYADH — Veteran bowlers Atoi Ramos and Rachel Tismo ruled the Masters Event at UFTBR-Cathay Pacific Ramadan Goodwill Games held at the Universal Bowling Center (UBC) here recently.
Ramos fresh from his successful stint in the recent GCC Bowling Tournament was seeded fifth in the Masters knock-out matches and had to contend with 3rd seed Ernee Noto (197 to 193) in the quarterfinals and 10th seed Fareed Aquino (233 to 167) in the semifinals before winning over 6th seed Stephen Solomon in the final with the score of 221 against 215.
In the other men's semifinal match, Solomon ended the streak of 9th seed Glenmar Dela Cruz, a promising bowler who reached the semis with a series of upset victories over highly rated bowlers.
In the ladies Masters, all the top four seeds made it to the semifinals with top seed Tismo defeating 4th seed Beth Danganan (188 to 181) and second seed Irene Pua closing out third seed Nina De Vera (218 to 194). Tismo dominated Pua in the final match (244 to 167) to clinch the Masters title.
In the team event, Habagat Uno (Noto, Solomon, Joe Garrido and Celis Viloria) bagged the title with Rotunda (Aquino, Rey Bautista, Johnny De Asis and Rocky Manipon) finishing second. Acinu (Jau Urbano, Rodel Maranca, Thong Asuncion and Shakur Kamlian) came in third. 4EverBuddies (Jett Cabana, Freddie Santiago, Bobby Jamora and Butch Mateo) were fourth, while Al-Safi Dabarkads2 (Ramil Glorioso, Ruel Pingol, Jude Lozano and Angel Caasi) finished fifth.
Fernie Ballano captured the men's singles title with Maranca second and Ramos third.
In the ladies singles event, Pua bagged the trophy with Tismo and De Vera finishing second and third.
The tandem of Edwin Atienza and Andro Tismo clinched the doubles trophy with Ramos and Medina second and Jove Marano and Joel Batolina third. All Events men's title went to Rodel Maranca with Pingol second and Noto third, while Tismo topped the All Events ladies division, followed by Pua and De Vera. In all 30 4-player teams participated in this year's event, which is organized annually by the Unified Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Riyadh (UFTBR) in celebration after Ramadan.
Cathay Pacific, one of Asia's leading airlines and the national carrier of Hong Kong, was the main sponsor of the event. Its Sales Executive for Central Region Ed G. Quiambao handed out two round trip tickets to Manila to the Master Event champions.
