RIYADH — In celebration of the 115th Philippine Independence Day, the Unified Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Riyadh (UFTBR) is once again organizing a special bowling event dubbed “Kalayan Cup 2013”. The four-player team bowling competition will be held at the Universal Bowling Center (UBC) here from June 12 to 14. More than 30 teams have already confirmed their participation. This year's event has become special with the unprecedented support of sponsors such as Interkey Holding Company, Saudi Gazette, Qatar Airways, Fursan Travel, MegaWorld International, Meral Crown Hotel, 3M Saudi Arabia, Skyfreight, Pepsi Cola, NADEC, House of Donuts, Jollibee, McDonalds, Gandour Chocolates, Riyadh Pro-Shop and the Saudi Telecom Company (STC) through Ahmed Alsahhaf. The other companies will be providing the event's official uniforms, round trip tickets to Manila, food and drinks throughout the three days of competition, cash prizes and numerous gift items to be given to bowlers as well as spectators. A jam-packed event is expected as bowlers with their families, supporters and friends will be in attendance to watch the excitement, cheer and celebrate. Eight event categories will be up for grabs, namely, Team Competition, Doubles, Singles for Men, Singles for Ladies, All Events for Men, All Events for Ladies, Masters Event for Men and Masters Event for Ladies. One of the highlights of the event is the opening ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on June 13 where teams bearing names taken from Philippine provinces, cities as well as landmarks and famous tourist destinations will have a short parade marking the Independence Day celebration. The awarding and closing ceremonies will be held at 5:30 p.m. on June 14. Snacks and drinks will be served during the tournament proper.
