RIYADH — The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) has penalized one person convicted of copyright infringement. He was ordered to pay a fine of SR9000 after it was proven that he had published a personal photo, modified it using artificial intelligence, and used it without the permission of the copyright holder. The SAIP emphasized that publishing personal images, modifying them using AI technologies, and then commercially exploiting them without the consent of the copyright holder constitutes a clear violation of the Copyright Law. The process of considering such cases will begin with the aggrieved party filing an official complaint. Evidence is then collected and analyzed to determine the nature of the violation. This is followed by a direct investigation with the violator and hearing their defenses. The case is then referred to a specialized committee for examination before taking the final decision. The authority called on individuals and institutions to respect intellectual property rights and refrain from infringing on them under any pretext. It emphasized that the applicable regulations impose deterrent financial and legal penalties to protect the rights of creators and authors.
