Saudi Arabia has become a known destination for major sports events. Just shortly after dazzling the world by hosting Saudi Arabia Grand Prix at global standards, the Ministry of Sport, in coordination with the Saudi Basketball Federation (SBF), is set to hostFIBA 3x3 World Tour Finals in Jeddah on the 17th-18th of December 2021. This global basketball event is under the supervision of the International Basketball Federation(FIBA), where the best 12 teams from around the globe will compete for becoming the best team in the world.
The goal behind hosting global events of this magnitudeis the continuous and diligent work towards achieving the objectives of "Quality of Life" program, a Vision 2030 initiative. In 2019, Saudi Arabia hosted one of FIBA's 3X3 tours, and the success of organization lead to choosing Saudi Arabia to host 2020 World Tour Finals, which was amid the exceptional circumstances of the pandemic. This year, we look forward to see this global event take place in Jeddah, raising Saudi Arabia's name higher world wide.
In his statement to the press on the occasion, the President of SBF, Dr. Ghassan Tashkandi, said: "We are pleased that Saudi Arabia has become a destination to host such great international events, which is a continuation of the Kingdom's endeavor to host variousglobal sporting events. We are blessed to live in an erawhere our beloved leadership is providing endless support to all sports' sectors, aiming to make Saudi Arabia a destination for major sports events throughout the year. The continuous care, attention, and follow up provided by His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, Minister of Sports and President of Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, to all sports federations is a motivation that encourage us to do our best and honor Saudi Arabia globally."
Dr. Ghassan Tashkandi added: "For the third time, formidable teams are present in FIBA 3X3 World Tour in Saudi Arabia, after hosting one of the rounds in 2019, and the World Tour Finals in 2020. There is no doubt that the excellence and experience shown by Saudi youth in previous organizations for such sporting events was a key factor for Saudi Arabia to be chosen once again to host this global tournament in particular, and othersporting events in general."
The FIBA 3X3 World Tour Finals this year will be accompanied with various fun activities and events suitable for all ages, which were absent last year due to safety restrictions and precautions taken during the pandemic.
