As many as 114.4 million (114,491,133) people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 2,539,452 have died, according to a worldodometer tally. It reported that there have been 90,023,750 cases of global recoveries. Coronavirus is continuing its spread across the world with over 100 million confirmed cases in 218 countries and more than 2.53 million deaths. The virus is surging in many regions and countries that had apparent success in suppressing initial outbreaks are also seeing infections rise again. The United States reported total infections of 29,203,913. According to statistics published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the total number of COVID fatalities reached 524,690 and the number of recoveries have surged to 19,632,572. The CDC said preliminary data show that rates of COVID-19 associated hospitalizations continue to decline after peaking in early January. This decline is promising, but we should all do our part to slow the spread: Wear a mask. Stay 6 feet apart. Counties in states with statewide mask mandates were 43% less likely to have rapid increases in COVID-19 cases during the summer of 2020. Nonmetropolitan counties were 67% less likely. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director Dr. Rochelle Walensky told NBC network, "We are still at about 100,000 cases a day. We are still at around 1,500 to 3,500 deaths per day. The cases are more than two-and-a half fold times what we saw over the summer. It's encouraging to see these trends coming down, but they're coming down from an extraordinarily high police." India and Brazil have the second and third highest case tallies, recording some 11 and 10.2 million cases respectively. Infections have been reported in more than 218 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019. Daily cases have now fallen in many European countries after steep rises in October. Lockdowns and other restrictions were reintroduced in some of the worst-affected regions to help bring numbers down. In Moscow, Russia reported 11,359 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 4,246,079 after it crossed the 4 million mark. Russia's coronavirus crisis center said 379 coronavirus patients had died in the last 24 hours and the overall national coronavirus death toll was at 86,122. They added 12,391 people recovered from the virus, raising the total number of recoveries to 3,811,797. The COVID-19 pandemic was confirmed to have spread to Russia on Jan. 31, 2020 when two Chinese citizens in Tyumen (Siberia) and Chita (Russia Far east) tested positive for the virus. In Berlin, German health authorities reported on Sunday 157 deaths and 9.890 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases said the country's death toll increased to 70,045 cases and the total confirmed cases those to 2,442,336. Germany responded to the second wave of the deadly pandemic by shutting hospitality businesses as well as leisure and sports facilities. Schools and non-essential shops have, however, remained open. In Brussels, total infections of coronavirus cases in Belgium on Sunday increased to 769,414 with 2,760 new infections reported by Belgian health authorities. They reported 18 more deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours raising the total death toll to 22,052. In Amsterdam, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment Sunday that 4,729 new coronavirus cases were reported in the Netherlands raising the total number of infections to 1,088,939. Also around 21 more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours raising the total deaths from COVID-19 to 15,566, said the institute. In Vienna, Austrian authorities announced Sunday that they recorded 2,123 new coronavirus cases raising the total number of confirmed infections to 459,440. More than 430,000 cases have recovered Since the start of the pandemic, deaths have reached 8,561, said the country's Health Ministry. In Beijing, China Sunday reported 6 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, and no virus-related deaths in the past 24 hours. The National Health Commission said total registered infections rose to 89,893 and fatalities remained at 4,636. It added 18 people have recovered from the virus and left hospitals in the past 24 hours to reach a total of 85,039. There are still 218 patients receiving treatment. In New Delhi, India said on Sunday that 113 people died due to COVID-19 while 16,752 new cases of the coronavirus were registered in the past 24 hours. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that fatalities due to COVID-19 rose to 157,051 as the total number of positive cases mounted to 11,096,731. According to the ministry, 10,775,169 people recuperated from the pandemic as it spread to 35 states. India has the world's second-highest caseload, but daily infections have dipped steadily since hitting a peak in September. Meanwhile, Indonesia registered on Sunday 5,560 COVID-19 cases and 185 patients who contracted the pathogen died from the virus. The total confirmed cases reached 1,334,634, death toll 36,166 and recoveries 1,142,703, said Indonesian Health Ministry. Bangladesh Health Ministry reported 385 new COVID-19 cases and eight patients succumbed to the contagious disease. The total death toll rose to 8,408 cases, total confirmed to 546,216 and 496,924 recovered, the ministry added. Malaysia declared on Sunday recording 2,437 new infection cases with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and nine new deaths as a result of contamination with the germ over the past hours. Caseload of the infections in the Asian country climbed to 300,752 and the death toll to 1,130, the Malaysian Ministry of Health said in a statement, adding that the whole count of the recoveries reached 273,417. Elsewhere in Asia, Thailand reported 70 new infection cases but no deaths over the last hours. The Thai Ministry of Health said in a statement the caseload reached 25,951 and mortalities 83. Meanwhile, count of the cured hit 25,128. In the Philippines, the local health department said 2,113 new infections were recorded in addition to 29 mortalities during the past 24 hours. The overall number of contaminations with the pathogen reached 576,352 while the deaths amounted to 12,318, in addition to 534,271 recoveries. ( In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has registered more than 9.8 million cases of the virus since the pandemic began, while the official death toll has risen to 238,532, according to ministry data. In Latin America, Brazil has more than nine million confirmed cases (9,800,000) and the world's second highest death toll (238,532). The country is currently seeing a second surge in infections. Brazil ranks third in terms of infection numbers globally, behind the United States and India. On fatalities, Brazil ranks second behind the US. Argentina, Colombia and Mexico have also recorded more than one million cases and all three countries are still seeing very high numbers of daily confirmed cases. Peru is also approaching the milestone of one million cases, although daily cases are falling. The country has one of the highest deaths rates in the world. Meanwhile, Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Sunday announced confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases all over the continent reached 3,888,006. The center, affiliated to the African Union (AU), said in a statement the pandemic death toll in Africa reached 103,485. The cases were distributed all over the African Continent, as 1.832,343 cases were recorded in southern Africa, while infections in the northern part hit 1.160,418, in addition to 403,929 cases in the east of the continent and 387,494 were found in the west, the center mentioned. Meanwhile, regarding the pandemic-caused deaths, southern Africa registered 56,334 fatalities, while 32,830 mortalities were reported in the north, 7,558 in the east, 4,971 in the west, while the mid of the continent witnessed 1,792 deaths, it added. Southern Africa is the highest affected part of the continent. South Africa, with more than 1.2 million cases and more than 30,000 deaths, is the worst affected country on the continent. Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria and Nigeria are the other African countries to officially record more than 100,000 cases. Kenya is the only other country with close to 100,000 cases. In Cairo, Egypt reported, during the past 24 hours, 588 new cases of the novel Coronavirus as well as 49 deaths due to COVID-19 complications. In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population stated that the total number of confirmed infections reached 181,829 and the death toll reached 10,639, since COVID-19 breakout.
