Carens beat Optima to clinch KIA T-20 Cup cricket tourney

JEDDAH — KIA Carens-XI beat KIA Optima-XI by nine wickets to lift the KIA T20 Cup, while KIA Cerato-XI beat KIA Sorento by 133 runs to claim the third spot in the exciting tournament here recently.
Four teams made up of Jeddah Cricket Association players — KIA Carens-XI, KIA Sorento-XI, KIA Cerato-XI and KIA Optima-XI, fought for the crown in the tournament sponsored by KIA motors with help from Phenomenal PR and Events management. The event was organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association.
In the final, Optima skipper Tariq Jamal won the toss and elected to bat. It made 161-8 in 18 overs. Tariq Jamal scored 9, Khalid Butt 18, Adbul Aziz 10 before middle order batsman Munawar Ali hit 41, Mustapha 22, Zahoor 22 and Sadath Ali Khan 19. Atta Ur Rehman claimed 2-19, Adnan 1-30, Khalid 2-38, Hafiz Ismail 2-9 and Mubeen 1-36. Atta Ur Rehman also took two brilliant catches.
In reply, Carens reached the target 164 for the loss of one wicket in 12 overs. Mohammad Ayazuddin Irfan remained unbeaten on 107 off 47 balls (9x6 and 10x4). His opening partner Syed Kaleem played equally well and scored 43. They made 159 for the first wicket. Munawar Ali claimed the lone wicket of Syed Kaleem. Mohammad Ayazuddin Irfan was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match.
Earlier in the match for the third spot, Cerato beat Sorento by 133 runs. Cerato put on 231-8 in 18 overs. Ather Abdul Quddus scored 85, Asim 46, Shaan Manzoor 51 and Yaqoob 10. Mohammad claimed 5-25; Frankie David took 3-50. In reply, Sorento-XI was bundled out for 98 in 13 overs. Ather Abdul Quddus had 4-15, Shaan Manzoor 3-24 and Akbar had taken 2-19 for Cerato.
In the first semis Carens beat Sorento by one wicket. Sorento put on 243-7 in 20 overs and Carens-XI reached the target 247 for nine in 19.2 overs.
The second semifinal saw Optima beat Cerato by five wickets. Cerato, batting first, was all out for 167 in 18.1 overs. In reply, Optima reached its target 168 for the loss of five wickets in 18 over.
The prize distribution ceremony took place after the final. Dignitaries from KIA Al-Jabr, PR and Events Phenomenal and JCA were present.
