Published in The Saudi Gazette on 01 - 06 - 2020

RIYADH — With 1,881 new cases of the novel coronavirus reported during the last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed cases in the Kingdom rose to 87,142, the ministry of health announced on Monday.
A total of 1,864 people recovered from the virus during the same period. This brings the total number of recoveries to 64,306, health ministry spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali was quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying.
The virus-related death toll climbed to 525 after 24 people died. Most of the new cases were reported in the capital city Riyadh where 668 infections were detected. It was followed by Jeddah with 293 cases, 290 in Dammam, 164 in Makkah, 62 in Jubail, 39 in Hufof, 22 in Qatif, 21 in Khulais, 20 in Al-Kharj, 19 each in Madinah and Hail, 17 in Taif, 11 in Wadi Al-Dawasir and 10 each in Abha and Safwa.
The other cases were confirmed in cities and provinces across the Kingdom, the spokesman said. Health Minister Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah at the weekend said more than 70 percent of the cases in the Kingdom have recovered so far as a result of the country's treatment protocols.
"We have treatment protocols developed by Saudi experts," Al-Rabiah said. "These protocols are continuously updated with any new global developments related to treatments and procedures," he added.
