RIYADH — With 3,045 cases of corona infections reported in Saudi Arabia during the last 24 hours, the overall tally in the country crossed the 100,000-mark on Sunday.
This is the second consecutive day when over 3,000 cases were reported in Saudi Arabia, the ministry of health said. Saturday saw an all-time high 3,121 cases in the Kingdom.
Health ministry spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali was quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as announcing 36 new deaths from the virus, bringing the death toll to 712.
The spokesman also announced a further 1,026 recoveries, meaning that 72,817 of the 101,914 cases have recovered.
In line with recent trends, the majority of the new cases were in the capital Riyadh (717), followed by Makkah (623), and Jeddah (351). The eastern port city of Dammam saw a notable increase of 257.
There were 132 infections in Hufof, 120 in Qatif, 110 in Madinah, 95 in Taif, 62 in Al-Khobar, 60 in Jubail, 34 in Mubarraz, 31 in Dhahran, 27 each in Hafr Al-Batin, Jazan and Ad-Diriyah, 26 in Ras Tanura, 22 in Khamis Mushayt, 20 in Yanbu, 19 in Safwa, 18 each in Al-Oyoun and Najran, 16 each in Buraidah and Ar'ar, 15 in Al-Jafr, 13 each in Muzahmiah and Wadi Al-Dawasir, 11 each in Sabiya and Tabuk and 10 each in Bisha and Al-Kharj. The rest of the cases were scattered in several small towns and governorates, the spokesman said.
Authorities moved to reimpose restrictions on Jeddah from Saturday as the number of coronavirus cases continued to grow. Workplace attendance will also be halted, with the restrictions are set to last until June 20.
