Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz Bin Saud Bin Naif has announced that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has donated SR10 million to the "Forijat" service, which was launched recently to help people who have been imprisoned because of their inability to pay back debts. Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy prime minister and minister of defense donated SR5 million to the initiative and while the interior minister donated SR2 million. Prince Abdulaziz made the announcement on Wednesday evening while inaugurating the second phase of the "Forijat" service to cover military personnel detained over financial cases. Prince Abdulaziz thanked the King and the Crown Prince for their generous contribution to the "Forijat" service. The Saudi Ministry of Interior launched the Forijat initiative on May 29, integrating law and technology. The platform is accessed through the Absher app for government services and allows the public to donate funds to help people who have been imprisoned because they are unable to pay debts. Within three days of its launch, 200 prisoners were released after a total debt of more than SR6.6 million was repaid. The process starts by signing in to the donor account on the Absher app. A payment number is allocated for each prisoner along with details of his case. After the donor completes the required steps, he receives a notification when the outstanding sum is repaid and the prisoner is then released. According to media reports, people have welcomed the initiative in a way that reflects the Saudi spirit of brotherhood and mutual support. Forijat is an indirect way of raising awareness of the seriousness of debt, as well as the strict application of the law on the one hand and the ethics and nobility of the people on the other, according to a Saudi newspaper columnist.
