Riyadh tops list for‘maltreatment of spouse' cases; Jeddah leads inparental disobedience

JEDDAH – The Ministry of Justice disclosed on its official Twitter page statistics on court cases for the past nine months. The statistics included family cases as well as alimony, magic and sorcery cases.
Riyadh region registered the highest number of ‘maltreatment of spouse' cases with a total of 239 while the governorates of Taif and Al-Qatif registered less than 19 cases each. Riyadh also topped the list in the Kingdom in alimony cases with 1,045 while Al-Khobar occupied last place with 128 cases. Jeddah topped the list in magic and sorcery cases (72) with only eight cases reported in Khamis Mushayt. Jeddah registered the highest number of parental disobedience cases (183).
The ministry said that a high percentage of the parties in these cases involved non-Saudis or at least one non-Saudi, Al-Watan newspaper reported Thursday.
The Ministry of Justice said that the number of cases in which the husband demanded that his wife treat him kindly in Riyadh reached 34 until the end of this month. While in Jeddah the number of such cases was 16 followed by Madinah (14), Makkah (13), Jazan (13), Dammam (11), Jubail (10), Al-Ahsa (9) and Taif (8).
The number of cases in which the wife demanded that her husband treat her kindly reached 205 in Riyadh, 141 in Jeddah, 108 in Makkah, 45 in Dammam, 42 in Al-Ahsa, 32 in Madinah, 25 in Taif, 17 in Buraidah, and 11 in Al-Qatif.
The number of cases in which the husband demanded that his wife obey him was 503 in Riyadh, 446 in Jeddah, 207 in Makkah, 104 in Taif, 101 in Al-Ahsa, 92 in Dammam, 77 in Madinah, and 53 in Tabuk city.
The number of alimony cases was 1,045 in Riyadh, 910 in Jeddah, 351 in Makkah, 276 in Dammam, 168 in Al-Ahsa, and 128 in Al-Khobar.
The number of cases of parental disobedience was 183 in Jeddah, 159 in Riyadh, and 44 in Madinah.
The number of magic and sorcery cases involving non-Saudis reached 101 in Makkah forming 88.6 percent of the total number of such cases.
The number of magic and sorcery cases involving Saudi nationals in Makkah was 13. — SG
