Shoura Council member Dr. Mish'al Bin Mamdouh Aal Ali has emphasized the need to amend the regulations governing the General Auditing Bureau (GAB). He stressed the importance of approving amendments that help protect public funds and specify penalties for administrative, financial violators and corruption. Aal Ali said this would guarantee a deterrence of excesses. “When its regulation is amended, GAB can scrutinize the final account of the state at the Ministry of Finance. The data forming the annual account is in the form of total balances for accounts derived from detailed accountancy and statistics records and books.” Aal Ali also pointed out that GAB has not been able to review these registers and records over the past few years. He attributed this to the Ministry of Finance's concealing of these records and documents without any legal basis.
