Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Eastern Province may now take Information and Communication Technology (ICT) courses offered by the Computer Society of Filipinos International, Inc. – Eastern Region Chapter (COMSOFIL-ERC). Classes are being conducted at Al Jazeera International School Dammam every Friday from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., each lasting three hours over eight weeks. Successful students will be issued certificates of completion. The following courses are being offered this semester: Desktop and Laptop Computer Assembly, Adobe Photoshop CS3, MS Office 2010 Word and Excel - Basic, MS Office Word and Excel – Advanced with Basic MS Access, CISCO-ICNDI, Autocad 2010 - 2D, Digital Photography, Security System – CCTV, Printer and Fax Machine Repair, Microstation - V8 and Advanced PC Configuration/Troubleshooting. To make their weekends productive, many OFWs enroll in short courses such as the ones offered by COMSOFIL-ERC, which was one of the 2010 Banaag Awardees for its contribution to the advancement of overseas Filipino communities. According to the Society, its mission is to help IT professionals and enthusiasts upgrade and improve their ICT knowledge and skills, thereby making them globally competitive. “As an additional service to our OFWs, COMSOFIL-ERC is conducting a free medical mission among members in cooperation with volunteers from the Dammam Medical Dispensary,” COMSOFIL–ERC 2012 President Willy Banania announced last Friday. The medical missions are carried out twice per semester: during cluster classes and on graduation day. This semester, the first medical mission was held at the Society's office on Feb. 24 and covered blood pressure checking and blood sugar determination, health education and consultation. Volunteers from the King Fahd University Hospital joined the mission. __
