ALJ Purchasing, Fikra and Maya Int'l Ltd won their opening games on the inaugural day of the JBL 2012 Invitational Basketball Tournament here. All the participating teams paraded in their resplendent uniforms during the opening ceremony held at the Bin Mahfouz basketball court at Andalus District. JBL President Mohammed Rasheed Suyat and JBL Commissioner Joe Dela Cerna led the opening ceremony with Jameel Lumanog of Jeddah Dawa'h Center saying opening prayers. The awards for the best team in uniform went to Maya Int'l Ltd and Fikra in the Inter-company division while ALJ Purchasing claimed the plum in the Open Non-rated 5'8” and below division. Best mascot awards went to Diet Shop for Inter Company and ALJ Genuine Parts for Open Non-rated 5'8” and below Division. Best Muse awards went to Fikra for Inter Company and ALJ Purchasing for Open Non-rated 5'8” and below Division. This tournament is sponsored by Giordano Fashions, ABS-CBN - The Filipino Channel, Saudi Signs, Al-Haddaf Sportsware and Wael Sports Wear. ALJ Purchasing defeated Friday Club 45-35. Both teams played good defense in the whole game. Charlie Tayam went on a scoring spree in the final quarter. Montano Dela Cruz top scored 14 points for the winner and was adjudged as the Giordano best player of the game while Nato Camartin hit 12 points for the loser. Maya Int'l Ltd beat Marhaba 63-48. Maya excelled in its inside game in the fourth quarter. Lito Soriano led Maya with 13 points and was adjudged as the JBL best player of the game. Jhun Dayata chipped in 13 points for the losers. Fikra defeated STC 50-40. Fikra held on bravely as STC continue to rally in the final quarter. Laurente attacked the defense of STC and scored 18 points for the winner and was adjudged as the Wael Sports Wear best player of the game. Sonny Soretta scored 19 points.
